Hello beautiful ladies!
So, where do I start? For the last year or so, I have been struggling with fully transitioning to my natural hair, or rather recovering the natural bounce of my curls. To my surprise - and while I stopped using straightening chemicals a longtime ago - the damage left behind my constant Dominican blowouts (and I must confess that by constant I mean EVERY GINGLE WEEKEND), is almost as great as the damage caused by relaxers and keratin treatments a few years back.
In pursue of undoing some of this damage, I stopped blow drying my hair (at least as often as I used to) and when I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I opted for a curly hair cut in hopes of speeding the recovery process… Well, this is where it gets interesting… a few weeks ago, I felt victim of a horrible $200.00 haircut in the hands of a fancy NYC hair salon, allegedly “specialized” in curly hair. Long story short, the haircut was ridiculously uneven, my strands were dry and my hair totally backtracked to where it was over six months ago.
Yep, that was me 4 weeks ago the day after my haircut! I know what you’re thinking :/
Anyways, enough of my drama and let’s get to the point…. After a long month of frustration, this week I decided to experiment with a Mayonnaise hair mask that I have heard so much about and I am amazed by the fast results! This being said, I want to share with you this recipe along with the following application steps:
Mayonnaise Treatment Recipe
¾ Cup Mayonnaise
3 Tb Olive Oil
1. After mixing all the ingredients in a bowl, separate your hair in sections and apply generously curl by curl
2. Wrap your hair with a plastic shower cap for at least 20 minutes and heat under the hair dryer for a few minures for better results. I personally left it on for 2 hours since I didn’t use a dryer
3. Wash your hair thoroughly in order to remove all the Mayo and style it as you normally would. Here is my styling cocktail during this particular day.
And now, allow me to introduce you to my hydrated, shiny, defined curls!
Overall, I am very happy with the results of this very cost efficient, simple treatment and I am totally planning to repeat it soon.
